About Me
I have recently returned to designing sets and costumes for performance after a six year period teaching design in the Bachelor of Production at the Victorian College of the Arts (2011-2016) As part of that role I was responsible for the development and implementation of a three-year curriculum in design for the performing arts, delivering lectures, tutorials and studio based classes as well as supervising senior students in design roles on VCA production for the Theatre, Dance and Music Theatre schools.
I was instrumental in developing a cross discipline (theatre, dance and production) first year subject, Concepts and Creativity, that promoted collaborative practice and dialogue across all art forms. I was also responsible for coordinating the undergraduate student contribution to the Tribes event as part of the 2015 Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space.
Prior to taking up the position at VCA I delivered the Visual Theatre program for the Queensland University of Technology’s BFA (Technical Production) from 2003 until 2010 whilst maintaining a career as a freelance set and costume designer for performance.
I have many years experience of consistent work in the theatre industry designing drama, musical theatre and dance. I have been involved in a large number of premier productions and have developed strong dramaturgical skills resulting in long term, creative relationships with directors, writers and theatre companies.
Aside from the productions detailed below I have filled the role of designer (with Maria Cleary) on the inaugural Brisbane Festival street parade in 1996 and on the Five2Midnight event for the 1997 Stage X Festival as well as being production designer for the short film The Story Teller written and directed by Louis Nowra for Queensland University of Technology in 1997.
